How will you address the world’s sustainability issues?

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all“. The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly with the intention to achieve them by the year 2030.

Advizzo’s current and upcoming services are proven to have a direct and positive impact on seven of the UN SDG initiatives, which are increasingly becoming part of the new regulatory framework for utilities.

Our data science and behavioural science based customer engagement platform and services genuinely address the following seven goals, delivering tangible results for utilities.

Let’s take a look:

Goal 3 – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

Supporting elderly and vulnerable customers to help them manage their energy consumption and reduce their bills is made simpler with our customer engagement platform and services. This is especially important given the recent rise in energy price rises.

Pensions and incomes are going to be squeezed harder than ever, but with precise data analysis and carefully refined algorithms, we can reach out to individual households on behalf of their supplier, with personalised advice and messages that are appropriate to their circumstances.

We can help them to reduce their consumption and costs by providing them with tips on ways to reduce usage; offer different more affordable tariffs or discounts; suggest appropriate payment schemes and payment breaks, or by introducing them to support schemes and grants. Through data analysis, we can also help detect and remedy abnormal consumption patterns.

Goal 6 – Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

Since 2015 we have demonstrated that by using our platform and behavioural science based customer engagement services, water companies reduce water consumption by between 1-3%. We have proven that by changing people’s consumption habits at scale, such results can be achieved and with sustainable and lasting impact.

Example – We worked with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), engaging over 600,000 of their domestic customers. As a result we succeeded in reducing water consumption by 69 million international gallons and saved 10 million Kwh of energy. That’s the equivalent of offsetting the consumption of over 2,000 villas for an entire year and represents 80% of their regulatory 2030 target for water, and almostt 35% for electricity – which will contribute to an overall reduction in consumption by 30% by 2030.

Goal 7 – Ensure access to affordable, reliable, modern and sustainable energy for all

Our customer engagement platform and services help energy customers to reduce their consumption and their bills, contributing to more affordable energy for all – a move that is critical given the recent hike in energy price rises.

Through our programs we can also promote products and services designed to assist with the growing trend for auto-consumption, whereby customers generate and consume their own energy.

Example: Working with an Electricity retailer in France, we helped promote more sustainable use of energy. By profiling customers through data analysis, we promote solar panel installation to households that meet the appropriate profile and criteria.

Goal 11 – Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

Based on a GDPR compliant opt-out model, our programme is fully inclusive and supports utilities sustainable agendas. Because our customer engagement programme is considered a primary core service offered by utilities, every customer is included, whether they are a low consumer or a high consumer, a vulnerable customer or a high income home.

We ensure that every customer has access to personalised information and insights that will help them make sustainable changes to behaviours to deliver savings in terms of water and energy usage, CO2 emissions and cost.

Goal 12 – Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

By considering the consumer as part of the solution towards ensuring sustainable consumption, we empower consumers to use only what water and energy is required, reducing over consumption and waste. By changing peoples’ habits at scale, we have proven that we can reduce consumption by up to 3% after three years of engagement – and sustain these levels of reduction.

Goal 13 – Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Our customer engagement platform and solutions reduce the carbon footprint of individual households by helping them achieve sustainable levels of consumption reduction – for water and energy. As such we directly participate and impact the carbon offset goals put in place by water and energy suppliers who use our solution.

Goal 14 – Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

Most people have no idea how much water they actually consumer. Our vision is for water to be used wisely everywhere, every day, and reduce consumption by educating customers to change their behaviour. In doing so we reduce water demand which in turn reduces the amount of water that water companies have to treat and pump, which helps preserve supply.

How will you address the world’s sustainability issues?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a universal framework that water and energy suppliers can use to build strategies to address the world’s most challenging sustainability issues.

However, we are now over one third of the way through the timeframe for the 2030 Agenda and despite global recognition of the urgency to realise the SDGs, we are not on course to deliver them.1 The impacts of COVID-19 have setback progress and there is an even greater need now for all stakeholders to intensify their efforts to achieve the Global Goals.

It is more important than ever that companies identify ways in which they can innovate and drive meaningful action in their own operations and value chains to contribute to the SDGs in collaboration with stakeholders. What is your strategy to address the world’s most challenging sustainability issues?
